MOTOROLA PHONE RELEASED ON BOOST

Boost Mobile, a division of Sprint that offers wireless phones and services with no contracts, credit checks or activation fees, and Motorola announced the launch of its first push-to-talk slider phone.

The Motorola Debut i856 gives Boost Mobile customers full advantage of a handset that glides open and closed with ease for instant communication, the company noted. Motorola Debut will be available to consumers now.

“Motorola Debut enhances the walkie-talkie experience further by incorporating the favorite traits among feature phones,” said Richard Gadd, vice president, Motorola Mobile Devices. “Now Boost Mobile customers can continue to stay in constant contact with the added control of a slider and the fun of camera and music features.”

“Our wildly popular Monthly Unlimited service is attracting customers who are more likely to purchase higher-end phones,” said Matt Carter, Boost Mobile President. “The Motorola Debut i856 phone meets the need for this demand with compelling multimedia features, including a 1.3MP camera with video capture, instant music access and Stereo Bluetooth capabilities into a sleek but durable design that fits comfortably in a pocket or purse.”

As described by the companies:

- When you need a fast response, Motorola Debut manages the conversation with favorite push-to-talk features. The compact slider design gives easier access to the keypad along with the security of keeping keys protected when not in use. Control your music, take calls, view messages and access the Web, all with the slider closed. Threaded texting allows you to view entire conversations all on one screen.

The companies said that the Motorola Debut i856 features include:

- Nationwide Walkie Talkie capability

- Slider Design

- Music Player with Standard Audio Jack

- 1.3MP Camera with Video

- Stereo Bluetooth capabilities

- GPS & Wireless Web Enabled

- Multi Media & Text Messaging

- Optional Removable Memory (microSD Support up to 8GB)

- Color Display

- Speakerphone with Voice-Activated Dialing

Sprint and HTC announced the upcoming arrival of the HTC Hero from Sprint

The first wireless device offering the combination of the open Android platform with the high-speed connectivity of Sprint’s 3G network.

Offering a rich mobile Internet experience, the HTC Hero offers synchronization for built-in Google mobile services, including Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, and YouTube as well as access to thousands of applications built on the Android platform.

Beginning on Oct. 11, customers will be able to purchase HTC Hero through all Sprint retail channels including Web, Telesales, and its national retail partner Best Buy. Pre-registration is available at sprint.com/hero.

“The arrival of HTC Hero and the Android platform to Sprint’s network is an important milestone for our customers and the U.S. wireless industry,” said Kevin Packingham, senior vice president of product development for Sprint. “With the dependability and coverage of Sprint’s 3G network, HTC Hero users will appreciate a much better experience than is possible now with any other Android phone operating in the United States. They will enjoy the robust potential to personalize their wireless experience as well as the best value in wireless with a Simply Everything plan from Sprint.”

“Sprint and HTC are helping to drive openness and innovation in the mobile industry with the introduction of the Android-powered HTC Hero,” said Andy Rubin, vice president, mobile platforms at Google. “As the world’s first truly open mobile platform built with the Internet in mind, Android provides to consumers the same Internet services they have become accustomed to on their desktop PC. Offering access to thousands of applications, a suite of Google services, and unique personalization features, the HTC Hero offers a compelling mobile experience.”

“HTC Sense on HTC Hero revolves around three basic principles: Make it Mine, Stay Close and Discover the Unexpected. These principles are based on the recognition that people want their mobile device to conform to their needs and wants, easily keep them in touch with the most important people in their lives, and surprise them with small moments of joy and delight,” said Jason Mackenzie, vice president of HTC America. “Working with Sprint to introduce HTC Hero to the US was a natural fit, as both HTC Hero and Sprint’s Simply Everything plan are designed to give customers everything they need in a simple package.”

Thin Palm Pixi Phone Puts Fast, Intuitive Communication at Fingertips

Palm’s Thinnest Phone Yet Expands Palm webOS Line with Customizable Style

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sep 09, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Palm, Inc. (NASDAQ:PALM) today introduced the Palm(R) Pixi(TM) phone for faster, more intuitive and personal communication in a compact and customizable design.(1) With the instinctively useable Palm webOS(TM) platform, strikingly thin design, a visible full keyboard and fashionable personalization options, Palm Pixi lets you express yourself in amazingly useful ways. It’s scheduled to be available exclusively from Sprint in time for the holidays.

“With Palm webOS, we’re creating a new, more intuitive smartphone experience defined by unmatched simplicity and usefulness,” said Jon Rubinstein, Palm chairman and chief executive officer. “Palm Pixi brings this unique experience to a broader range of people who want enhanced messaging and social networking in a design that lets them express their personal style.”

In addition to linking your information from Google(TM), Facebook and Exchange ActiveSync, Palm Pixi adds Yahoo! and LinkedIn integration to Palm Synergy(TM) and assembles it all in a single view.(2) You can get your Yahoo! contacts, calendar and IM, and access to your LinkedIn contacts, including job titles. Synergy on Palm Pixi makes messaging easier by showing you all your conversations with the same person in one chat-style thread, so you can start a conversation on AIM Instant Messenger, Google Talk(TM) or Yahoo! Messenger and continue it by text message later.(3)

Complementing the phone’s already rich Facebook integration with the contacts, phone, calendar and photo applications, a new Facebook application will be available with Palm Pixi so you can see and comment on all the latest news from your friends, as well as easily update your status. The phone’s full QWERTY keyboard puts it all at your fingertips, and the multi-touch screen lets you move back and forth between open applications using natural gestures.(4) The unique removable back cover is rubberized, making it scratch-resistant, slip-resistant and durable.

Personalization with Style

For those who want to express themselves with some extra style, Palm is introducing the Palm Pixi Artist Series. Designed by some of today’s most unique and compelling artists, these numbered, limited-edition back covers let you change designs to suit your mood. You can see the first collection in the series, as well as information about the artists, at www.palm.com/artistseries. Palm will be showcasing the fashionable new Palm Pixi with the Artist Series covers this week at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York (Sept. 10-17).

You can also tailor Palm Pixi to your interests with downloadable applications from the Palm Beta App Catalog, including the latest entertainment and social networking applications such as Local Concerts by iLike, and Yelp(TM).(5) You can use Palm media sync to customize your phone with music, photos and videos from iTunes (Versions 8.1.1-8.2.1)(6), or use the on-device Amazon MP3 store to purchase individual songs or full albums over-the-air.(3)

“Palm Pixi continues Sprint’s leadership in providing useful and innovative devices on America’s most dependable 3G network,”(7) said Dan Hesse, chief executive officer at Sprint. “We are pleased to be the first carrier to bring this device to market and offer both devices in the growing Palm webOS family. Sprint’s Everything Data plans, which provide unrestricted access to the Internet, mobile content and applications, and our Ready Now retail experience make for a perfect combination with these new Palm products.”

The Sprint Mobile Broadband Network reaches more than 271 million people, 18,652 cities and 1,838 airports, and Sprint’s networks are now performing at best-ever levels.

Customers who purchase Palm Pixi will benefit from Sprint’s Ready Now, which the company pioneered to help customers leave the store educated, comfortable and confident about the phones they’re taking home. It is like having a free personal trainer that educates you on all your phone can do by setting up all the applications you want to use on the device.

Palm Pixi is also the perfect complement to Sprint’s Simply EverythingSM plan, which provides unlimited nationwide calling, texting, email, social networking, web browsing, GPS navigation, Sprint TV, streaming music, NFL Mobile Live, NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile and much more for only $99.99 per month. It’s a savings of $1,200 over two years versus some comparable competitor plans.

Palm Pixi Features

High-speed connectivity (EVDO Rev. A)

2.63-inch multi-touch screen with a vibrant 18-bit color 320×400 resolution TFT display

Gesture area, which enables simple, intuitive gestures for navigation

Exposed QWERTY keyboard for fast messaging

As the Internet integrates deeper into daily life, the opportunities to stay connected and be productive are enhanced by CLEAR in numerous ways, for example:

A busy parent who wants full Internet connectivity for kids studying or playing games in the back of the family minivan;
A college student or retiree looking for one affordable Internet service provider to meet their needs at home, on campus and on-the-go;
A mobile professional who is unsatisfied with the speeds and limitations of 3G modem cards or the need to seek out Wi-Fi hotspots;
A local transportation service looking to provide in-vehicle Internet service for their clients;
A commuter interested in accessing entertainment sites like Hulu or Pandora on the ride home.

For these and many other customers, CLEAR’s simple and innovative pricing provides ultimate flexibility. CLEAR’s mobile and residential plans can be purchased by the day or by the month, with several no-service-contract options available. Home Internet service plans start at $25 per month; while mobile Internet plans start at $35 per month, or customers can purchase a convenient mobile day pass for $10. For a limited time, customers can also choose the Pick 1 Unlimited plan option; offering an unlimited home or mobile Internet for $22.50 for the first 3 months and $45 per month thereafter. Customers can find full details about pricing options, business plans and purchase the service online at www.clear.com, or by visiting numerous retail locations throughout these markets, or other authorized CLEAR dealers.

Simply Plug-In and Go

CLEAR offers several simple choices for broadband connectivity.

Clear USB Modem and Clear 4G+ Mobile: Mobile users simply plug-in one of CLEAR’s compact, mobile WiMAX-enabled USB modems into their laptop to get online. Customers have a choice of a 4G-only modem, or a Clear 4G+ mobile USB, a dual-mode (4G/3G) modem from CLEAR with the capability to deliver to the truly mobile user access to Sprint’s nationwide 3G network service whenever the Clear 4G service is not available. Pricing for modems start at $49.99, after instant rebate, or may be leased beginning as low as just $4.99 monthly.

Residential data & voice services: For residential service, CLEAR offers customers a wireless high-speed modem, about the size of a small book. Customers simply plug the modem into a power outlet anywhere in their home or office and connect the modem to their PC or wireless router. This enables consumers and businesses to install high-speed Internet service without the need to schedule an appointment, drill holes in their walls, or otherwise disrupt their day. The Clear Modem, a residential modem from Motorola, can be purchased for $69.99 or leased for just $4.99 monthly. Residential customers can also add in-home voice service with purchase of the Clear Voice Adapter for $15, and receive unlimited local and long distance service for just $25 per month.

This $139.99 device is a portable, battery-powered router that seamlessly connects up to eight standard Wi-Fi-enabled devices (computers, mobile phones, portable gaming, consoles, cameras, etc.) to the Internet via a Clear USB modem to access CLEAR’s mobile WiMAX network. The Clear Spot is compatible with both the Clear 4G and Clear 4G+ mobile USB dual-mode service options.

SPRINTS EXPANDS ITS 4G REACH

Clearwire Communications, LLC, an operating subsidiary of Clearwire Corporation (NASDAQ:CLWR), today officially launched its CLEAR 4G WiMAX service in 10 new markets, expanding CLEAR’s super fast mobile Internet service area to a total of 14 markets and over 10 million people. Effective today, these markets, including Abilene, Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Killeen/Temple, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Waco and Wichita Falls, Texas; Bellingham, Wash; and Boise, Idaho, officially offer consumers and businesses access to the Internet wirelessly at true broadband speeds ? at home, in the office, and on the go anywhere in the CLEAR coverage area.

“CLEAR combines two of the most exciting technological advances of our generation – mobile communications and the Internet – in order to free our customers to take their rich home or office broadband experience with them anywhere around town or on the go,” said Mike Sievert, Chief Commercial Officer for Clearwire. “Our 4G WiMAX network provides a valuable new category of Internet service designed to make people’s lives more enjoyable and more productive by giving them access to the connections, information and resources that matter most, wherever they happen to be.”

A CLEAR Difference

Unlike other wireless services, CLEAR delivers a mobile broadband Internet experience on par with speeds typically experienced only on wired connections, like DSL. CLEAR customers can expect to see average download speeds of 3 to 6 mbps with bursts over 10 mbps.

The CLEAR customer experience is similar to that provided by Wi-Fi, but without the short range limitations of a traditional hotspot. CLEAR uses a 4G technology that differs from Wi-Fi called WiMAX, which provides service areas measured in miles, not feet. In these markets, the Clearwire network utilizes an area-wide WiMAX radio system from Motorola.

As the Internet integrates deeper into daily life, the opportunities to stay connected and be productive are enhanced by CLEAR in numerous ways,

THE HTC TOUCH PRO 2 is launching next week. Just as many of the nation’s Tier 1 carriers eventually launched the original Touch Pro, it now appears that a similar trend is taking hold for the smartphone’s successor.

The Touch Pro 2, first unveiled at the Mobile World Congress trade show in February, has a 3.6-inch WVGA TouchFLO 3D display, a tilt-capable screen, a full keyboard and a 3.2-megapixel camera. The smartphone runs a customized version of Windows Mobile 6.1; customers will eventually be able to upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 when it becomes available. Sprint said the phone would have WiFi capabilities and support for both GSM and CDMA networks, making it a world phone.

The device would be available beginning Sept. 8 for $349.99 with a two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate.

Clearwire Corp. is shaking up its executive team, naming two new executives to help roll out WiMAX, an ultra-fast mobile broadband technology, throughout the country.

Two other executives are departing Clearwire (Nasdaq: CLWR), based in Kirkland, Wash.

Erik Prusch starts Monday as CFO, Clearwire said in a release. He previously was CEO of Borland Software, where he also had been CFO, helping restructure the company and return it to profitability. He also has held executive positions at the Turbo Tax division of Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq: INTU), Identix Inc. and Gateway Computers Inc. He’ll report to Clearwire CEO William Morrow.

Teresa Elder stepped into a newly created position, president of strategic partnerships and wholesale. She’ll manage Clearwire’s wholesale operations, which includes the reselling of WiMAX service by Clearwire’s strategic investors, which include 51 percent owner Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE: S).

Elder previously was CEO of Vodafone, Ireland, a subsidiary of Vodafone Group Plc. (NYSE: VOD), which under her leadership was the Ireland market leader with more than $2 billion in revenue and 2.2 million customers. Previously, she was president, West of AT&T Broadband, which now is part of Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA). Elder also held executive positions with MediaOne Group. She’ll report to Clearwire Chief Commercial Officer Mike Sievert and be a member of Morrow’s executive committee.

“Their successful track records at growing businesses by introducing innovative consumer technologies will be an asset to our firm,” Morrow said in the release. “Erik and Teresa each possess an impressive set of proven leadership skills that will enhance our ability to execute on the company’s vision.”

Clearwire Chief Strategy Officer Scott Richardson is leaving his position but will remain a strategic adviser. Morrow will handle strategy, and Sievert will manage product development.

CFO David Sach also is leaving to “pursue new opportunities,” the release said.

The rest of the senior leadership team won’t change. Morrow took the place of Clearwire co-founder Ben Wolff early this year.

On Nov. 28, Overland Park-based Sprint turned over its WiMAX assets to Clearwire in a $14.5 billion deal that included investors such as big cable companies, Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG) and Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC). Investors can resell the service, which is available in Baltimore, Las Vegas, Atlanta and Portland, Ore., and is scheduled to be available in 26 cities by the end of the year.
